A Message from Mr Nation

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful half term. 

Our new ‘Gateway’ for this half term is ‘Citizenship’ and across the school, through Geography, the children will be learning about their role as a local and global citizen. From understanding our local geography and how we can support our local community in Year 1, to comparing our village to villages further afield by looking at India and closer to home with our European neighbours. Further up the school they will look more closely at the physical and human similarities and differences between such localities and how these impact on what citizenship involves in those parts of the world. We will also be considering the arising environmental implications of how we live and our responsibilities as global citizens to such issues. How are you an active citizen in the local or global community? Please share and discuss at home.

I know you’ve all been patiently waiting for an update regarding Forest School provision. Rest assured we are in the final stages of organising quality outdoor provision for all of the children at Castle Primary School. In addition, we’re keen to further enhance the Physical Education for the children. To this end, we’re organising a company to work with us to enhance the PE we already offer. 

We welcomed a film crew into school this week. They were filming for a project that will (hopefully)  be shared among various film festivals and centred around a key child/children. Permission was sought from parents of those children involved in the recording so please don’t worry - we only filmed those for whom we had permission! 

We have a short but busy half term ahead. Please ensure you keep updated with the many events which can be found online and on this newsletter.

A message from Mr Norton

Another fabulous term here at Castle Primary School. As a school we have been focusing on the value of perseverance. It seemed like an appropriate value to reflect upon as this half term sees our Yr 2 and Yr 6 children participate in the national SATs tests. Cast your minds back to those heady days of being in school and sitting a test, yourself. “Ugh!!!” I hear you say. The children have been amazing. They demonstrated resilience, stamina and persevered until the final paper was completed. They all shone brightly and were able to demonstrate all of their hard work, understanding and educational prowess. We are very proud of them all.   This week our school again competed in the Trust Public Speaking Competition. Tennessee, Hebe and Lexi M all represented our school and spoke with passion and enthusiasm about the subject of ‘Equality and how children can make a difference’. In front of an audience of their peers, teachers and a panel of judges, the children gave their speech with confidence. It was inspiring to hear them quote famous activists who have been a force for change in our world and to share how we, as a community, can also make a difference. Powerful and wise words from such young minds. It was truly inspiring to hear them speak.   As half term approaches and we all start to blow the dust off of that box of summer clothes that we were beginning to think we would never see or need again, we wish you all a restful and hopefully sunny break from school and we look forward to welcoming you all back for our final half term’s exciting learning and events. A message from Mr Morton

It has been another exciting and rather jam packed half term of new experiences and educational adventures here at school. It is always a real privilege to be part of the learning journey that our children undertake each half term and I am always blown away by how they apply their skills and knowledge to find the answers and to make those connections that allow them to make sense of the wider world.  It is not just in school that we see our children flourish. Well done and thank you to all of the children who represented our school at the Trust Performing Arts day, held at The Brewhouse Theatre in Taunton. You sang your amazing hearts out and filled the theatre with music. I know that you all had a fantastic day and that the experience of standing on a stage in front of a live audience was equally as scary as it was memorable.  I hope you have noticed the new amazing reading shed that has appeared on our playground this week? Our reading champions have worked tirelessly to raise money to fund the project. The new shed was designed and generously built by Mr Hayne. I'm sure you will join us in thanking Mr Hayne for this amazing addition to the school. It has now offered even more opportunities for our children to connect with reading and to extreme read!  Please all have a safe, restful and joyous Easter break filled with family, celebrations and maybe some chocolate eggs! A message from Mr Morton

As we crest over the halfway point of the school year it is wonderful to see how much all of our children have grown. Not only in size but also as learners. It is an absolute pleasure to visit all of our teaching spaces and see our children engaged so deeply in their learning. From our youngest children, outside, exploring and making sense of their world to our oldest children holding debates and writing speeches that focus on how to celebrate and promote a more diverse world. Together we are helping to craft young minds and shape our future generations. Every dinner table conversation, every reading book and bedtime story shared, every chance to explore new things, in and out of school, helps them to grow. A Message from Mr Morton

A message from Steve Morton Welcome back everyone. We hope that you had a restful and enjoyable Christmas and New Year? Albeit a wet one! Term is off to a great start with all of the children straight back into the daily routines and excited to begin their new units of study. It is always a treat to spend time in the classes experiencing the learning of all of our children and seeing how they apply their skills to solve problems and to use their creativity to share their understanding. We are passionate about giving all of our children opportunities to experience the wider world and to consider the perspectives of others. Often this is achieved through reading/ research or teacher led knowledge sharing. However, one of the most immersive methods for this is to ‘walk a mile in the person's shoes’. Our plan over this year is to offer the children as many opportunities to experience the world from different perspectives as we can. This will be through expert guests visiting us, in school experience days, whole school values events, museum experiences and trips to other locations. It is going to be an exciting year. A Message from Mr Morton

Thank you everyone for another wonderful term here at Castle Primary School. The children have been engaged in lots of amazing activities and celebrations that have enriched our lives and lifted our spirits. The artwork and poetry created for our Remembrance Service tastefully celebrated the lives of those who gave so much for us and adorned our monument until they faded into the earth.  On Wednesday this week William, Jacob and Harry represented our school at the first Trust Public Speaking Competition. The topic was 'Can children make a difference to our environment?'. The team has been working for the last few weeks to formulate their presentation and then to practise public speaking. They represented our school with confidence and articulated their points like professionals. They spoke passionately about how children can make a difference and should always challenge what they know to be wrong or that can be done better.  We are very proud of them. We look forward to welcoming you all for our 'Carols by candlelight' gathering on the playground next week. Last year the children warmed our hearts with their singing and the brass band made it even more christmassy than one would think possible (cheesy Christmas jokes aside!). We are confident that this year will be even more of that wonderful spirit.  A great night to be had by all.  Have a wonderful break and a joyful celebration. A Message from Mr Morton

Welcome back everyone. We hope that you had a delightful break. As always, our children have returned with a spring in their step and an enthusiasm to learn. What more can we ask of them? It was lovely to share all of the children’s progress with you during our parents' evenings and what a delight to actually do them in person. The change of season into autumn brings a need for waterproof jackets, wellies, scarves and the start of the festive season. I can almost hear the rustle of tinsel on the angel costumes. A message from Mr Morton

A warm and slightly rainy welcome back to school everyone. We hope that you have had a wonderful summer break filled with adventures and the occasional ice cream!  Term is off to a great start and the children have settled into their new year groups and classes really well. The hum of learning language and the energy that is permeating throughout our whole school is electrifying. It is a treat to visit the classes and chat to the children about their learning and how well they can apply this to the wider world.  Please keep an eye on our ‘Dates for the diary’ list that has been shared with you all as we have many exciting events that the children are participating in and many that we would love you to join us for. Queen Elizabeth II

We are very sad to hear the news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II today.  Our thoughts are with her family at this time.  The Queen was an example to us all of public service, honour and dignity. Following the death of Her Majesty The Queen, The Redstart Learning Partnership and its 10 schools, at the expressed wish of His Majesty The King, will follow a period of Royal Mourning to be observed from now until the Queen's funeral (the funeral date to be confirmed).   Mrs Suzanne Flack, CEO of The Redstart Learning Partnership (TRLP) will leave a floral tribute at the gates of Buckingham Palace on behalf of TRLP.   Our schools will not be following any particular behaviours during this period however, there may be a number of changes to our planned events and communications. Schools will remain open and normal attendance will be expected.  Special activities, assemblies and lessons may be adapted to reflect the period of national mourning.  Books of condolence will be open at a number of our schools to commemorate the life of Her Majesty.  May Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II rest in peace and rise in glory.Categories: 1 CategorySchool News
